Is this a rip-off? Lizzo vs Doja Cat

Lizzo vs Doja Cat

Recently, the radios have been bombarded by Doja Cat's "Say So" which includes a rap interlude. However, to my ear there is something very similar or possibly even the same as Lizzo's infamous "Juice". Listening to the two back to back, there are sublte differences but despite having different producers and songwriters, the songs sound very similar. "Juice" introduces the bass earlier and "Say So" seems to start in a higher octave and the lyrics start much earlier.

Lizzo released Juice in 2019, in January. The original video for the song was released on YouTube on January 4th, 2019. I became familiar with the song with this video remix that included a selection of RuPaul's drag race girls.
The original.
The remix.

Doja Cat's "Say So" was released in November of 2019 but the video was not released until February 27th, 2020.

What do you guys think? Did Doja get inspiration from Lizzo and alter it just enough to avoid copyright claims?

RuPaul's Drag Race S12 Premeire Part 2

At the start of the part 2 premeire episode, VH1 posted a notice that due to the recent events concerning Sherry Pie, she has been disqualified including the reports and the statement Sherry Pie made. Jakeyonce broke that news and had a live discussion with his fans on YouTube earlier in the day. In his description box he links to his IG accout that has the statements of a victim and other RPDR queens. I did not watch the video for nothing to be spoiled, but now that the VH1 title card is in place, I may. VH1 says they will air the season as filmed due to the hardwork of the other queens. They do state she will be not included in the grand finale that will film and air in the spring.

In part 2 we meet:

Rock M Sakura: Rock is crazy, a comedian inspired by anime, manga, and video games. She is from San Francisco. She is intelligent as knowing she wasn't great at the first main challenge, she relied on character work which she is confident in. One of my favorites.

Dahlia Sin: Dahlia is originally a Brooklyn queen now from LA. She is from House of Aja and she looks very much like her drag mother Aja from prior seasons. She seems nervous.

Sherry Pie. Sherry was disqualified as noted earlier. But she's from NYC and a Broadway comedy queen. Sherry's attitude in confessionals makes all her loveable in-drag moments obsolete. There is no links for Sherry because I will not advertise for someone who was disqualified and has intentionally did not so great things to other performers.

Jan: Jan is from NYC. She looks a little like Cheryl Hole. Intelligent. Talented. Good singer, brings an alternative pov to the challenges.

Jaida Essence HallJaida hails from Wisconsin and is a pageant queen. In the Build interview w/ Miz Cracker should a bit of vulnerability and comedy. Giving a lot of drama but gorgeous.

Aiden ZhaneAiden is unique full of mystery and from Atlanta. Well, thats the closest drag scene to her.  Very cute out of drag. Aiden has a bit of a theatrical twist to her performance. She has a low and quiet personality but her performance was intriguing. It makes me want to learn more about her. Another one quickly becoming one of my top runners.

RuPaul's Drag Race S12 Premiere Review

As we approach part two of the two part finale for RuPaul's Drag race, let us take a look and be reminded of the first 7 contestants audiences have met thus far. RuPaul's Drag Race airs at 8pm EST/7PM CST on VH1. Episodes can be streamed online the next day at the VH1 website. This premiere episde the guest judge is Niki Minahj, at least last week it was. It is unclear if the second group of queens ala Season 6, will share the same guest judge.

Brita: Brita is from New York City and is a Polynesian drag queen. On the first episode, she seemed pretty nice and laid back. She did not stir the pot too much and her looks were well put together.

Nicky Doll: Nicky is a dual citizen queen of both France and the USA. She is also a NYC queen. She entered and is instantly giving fashion. She did well, but seemed to have a bit of an attitude but she did not seem to overstep the other girls, instead asking questions directly to their face.

Widow Von'Du: Widow hails from Missouri and her personality about the choreographing did put my off. You can definitely see her fashion inspiration as Missy Elliot and other hip hiop/R&B artists who are larger than life.

Jackie Cox: Jackie is a Persian queen from NYC. She is a focus of the episode and explains the repercussions of being a homosexual person in Iran, where her family from. She was nice and reminds me of Miz Cracker in that nice, funny and kind personality. I really like her.

Heidi N Closet: Heidi is from North Carolina and is at the other end of the famous Nicki Minaj line "I hate hate hate hate your face". Heidi shows spunk and drive when in untucked she asks Nicki what she hated. I was worried it was going to go down hill, and the editing did make it suspsenseful but I applaud her asking for more specific feedback. She is another one I am slowly liking and rooting for.

Gigi Goode: Gigi is a young contestant at only 21 and hails from LA. Her mother is a costume designer and it is clear that Gigi has  a style. She seems genuinely sweet and determined. She is also a favorite of mine of these 7. Though she is not gifted with rhythm she is intelligent and used her smarts in the main challenge to create a verse that fits what she is capable of.

Crystal Methyd: Crystal is also a Missouri queen and has a very unique comedy look which I enjoy. She is unique and also seemed genuinely nice.
